Join the Androscoggin Land Trust tfflhis Sunday September 28 from 10am – 1pm to celebrate fall and our 25th Anniversary with a paddle on Gulf Island Pond along the shore of the Androscoggin Riverlands State Park! The paddling trip will depart from the boat access on Center Bridge Road in Turner at the northern end of the park, and include a round trip of approximately eight miles depending on the weather and water conditions.

As paddlers follow the shoreline of the recently designated state park they will learn the history about the property that was first conserved in 1991 by conservationists who played a role in creating the Androscoggin Land Trust, and learn its history. The landscape was once a thriving community, flooded when Gulf Island Dam was built in 1927.

Remnants of old farmsteads remain on the shore and underwater. We’ll paddle down to an island, have lunch, and turn back.

Bring your own boat and paddling gear (life vests mandatory). Bring wind/rain/sun protection gear, binoculars, camera, water, and your lunch.

Paddle will be held rain or shine unless conditions are treacherous. For directions and more information about the park, visit www.maine.gov/androscogginriverlands. The Center Bridge boat access is just beyond the entrance to the park. Look for a small blue sign with a boat on it.
