DESCRIPTION:*DUE TO THE IMPENDING IMPACT OF HURRICANE LEE\, ALT IS MOVING THE ANDROSCOGGIN RIVER CLEANUP TO THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 14th. OUR APOLOGIES TO ANYONE AFFECTED AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU DURING THE RESCEDULED EVENT!*\n\nJoin us by boat or foot for the 2023 Androscoggin River Clean Up sponsored by Androscoggin Bank! The Southern Clean Up Checks in by 9:30am at the Lewiston Farmers Market parking at 2 Oxford St. to pick up gloves\, pinchers\, trash bags\, buckets\, anything you need to help us and your community keep the banks of the Androscoggin River Clean!\nThere will be six ‘zones’ this year from Great Falls to the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge with drop off locations for items collected for each zone! You will be provided with an assist point of contact in case you need help collecting refuse or if someone is injured.\n\nThere will be PUF’s made available for folks in case they choose to wear them from the shore. Power boats can be launched from the Lincoln Street Boat Launch at 509 Lincoln St\, Lewiston ME 04240. Hand Carry Boat Launching is permitted from Simard-Payne Park at 46 Beech St. in Lewiston in front on the Check in station and at Anniversary Park\, 8 2nd St\, Auburn\, ME 04210. There is free parking at all locations. The City of Auburn has partnered with RENT.FUN to offer Kayak Rentals at Anniversary Park if you choose not to bring your own\, first come\, first served. DESCRIPTION:The Androscoggin Land Trust (ALT) and the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce are proud to partner for this year’s River Race as part of the 2021 RiverFest lineup of activities. For prior participants\, please note the changes to the racecourses this year. These changes have enabled you to register for up to two races. The River Race is an exciting\, family-oriented day celebrating the Androscoggin River\, the Auburn and Lewiston Downtowns\, and highlighting the contributions the river makes to outdoor recreation opportunities and the local economy. Observers\, race team supporters\, family\, and friends are welcome to participate in the festivities at no charge.\n\n2021 Race Course Options\n\nFamily Fun Paddle:\nAn approximately 1.5-mile course\, where racers put in at the docks in Simard Payne\, line up under the pedestrian bridge\, and compete to the finish line at the Lewiston boat launch on Lincoln Street.\nFalls Run:\nAn approximately 2.25-mile length course\, where racers put in at the docks in Simard Payne\, line up at pedestrian bridge\, paddle upstream ½ of a mile\, to the Great Falls\, and then race down to the Lewiston boat launch on Lincoln Street.\nLA Scavenger:\nAn approximately 1 mile\, fun and silly course\, where racers put in at the docks in Simard Payne\, paddle across to Auburn’s Little Andy Park for a quick scavenger hunt for your team’s marker\, and resume back to the docks in Lewiston.\n\nPrizes will be awarded after the race at Simard-Payne Park to the top 2 finishers in each category.\nLearn more and register by following this link: https://business.lametrochamber.com/events/details/2021-riverrace-hosted-by-the-androscoggin-land-trust-alt-and-the-lewiston-auburn-metropolitan-chamber-18962\n

SUMMARY:Snowshoe Hikes at Sherwood Conservation Area for Auburn Winterfest
DESCRIPTION:Join Maine Master Naturalists and long-time ALT volunteers\, Paula Curtis Everett and Michael Everett\, on one of several family-friendly snowshoe hikes at ALT conserved property\, Sherwood Forest Conservation Area behind Sherwood Heights Elementary School in Auburn. Paula will lead several hikes on the White Trail trail (.3 miles) in approximately 30 min intervals starting at 11AM.   For hikers interested in going out solo on the additional 2 miles of trails\, see this trail map and rules: https://androscogginlandtrust.org/land-projects/sherwood-forest-conservation-area/ \nThese showshoe hikes are part of an Auburn Winterfest event on Jan 27 sponsored by the United New Auburn Association who is also hosting sledding and skating at Sherwood Heights Elementary School 11AM-2PM. DESCRIPTION:Please add ALT’s Mt. Apatite snowshoe hike to your list of fun Auburn Winter Fest activities! Paula Curtis-Everett\, Michael Everett\, & Ned Claxton\, long-time ALT volunteers\, will lead a moderate walk along a little over 2 miles of mild gradient trails at Mt. Apatite. \nWe will depart at 10 AM from the park entrance off Garfield Road\, parking in the Auburn Suburban ball fields parking lot. (Please note the meeting location change due to high levels of interest in this event: we are NOT meeting off Small Road/Hatch Road-please meet us near the ball fields instead) \nWhat to bring: snowshoes\, poles (optional)\, water and a snack\, warm clothing (layers suggested). \nWe will have approximately 20 snowshoes available to borrow thanks to Maine IF&W.  Please contact ALT in advance if you are interested in borrowing a pair: 782-2302 or info@androscogginlandtrust.org \n\nMount Apatite is a 300 acre property owned by the City of Auburn. In the early 1800’s it was an established mine. For nearly 100 years semi-precious stones and minerals were mined there.
