Have you ever seen or heard a woodcock? They are spectacular birds! The male Woodcock performs a very interesting mating ritual during the twilight hours in early spring and on April 22 we’re heading out to catch a glimpse! Led by long-time board member and bird enthusiast Dana Little, we will walk the trails of the historic Purinton Homestead Conservation Area in West Bowdoin in hopes of observing this rare sight.  We’ll also be listening for barred owls and other inhabitants of the preserve.

We will meet at the entrance to the trail at 6:30pm. Please wear warm clothes and waterproof boots-preferably tall rain boots and bring water.  We hope you will join us!

Directions: The Purinton Homestead Preserve kiosk and trail entrance is 600 feet west of the West Bowdoin Baptist Church (54 West Road, Bowdoin, ME). You can enter this address into your GPS and then look for a sandy informal parking area, which is adjacent to the trailhead.
