Snowshoe Hike at Mt. Apatite for Auburn Winter Fest!

January 26, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free
snowshoe hike

Please add ALT’s Mt. Apatite snowshoe hike to your list of fun Auburn Winter Fest activities! Paula Curtis-Everett, Michael Everett, & Ned Claxton, long-time ALT volunteers, will lead a moderate walk along a little over 2 miles of mild gradient trails at Mt. Apatite.

We will depart at 10 AM from the park entrance off Garfield Road, parking in the Auburn Suburban ball fields parking lot. (Please note the meeting location change due to high levels of interest in this event: we are NOT meeting off Small Road/Hatch Road-please meet us near the ball fields instead)

What to bring: snowshoes, poles (optional), water and a snack, warm clothing (layers suggested).

We will have approximately 20 snowshoes available to borrow thanks to Maine IF&W.  Please contact ALT in advance if you are interested in borrowing a pair: 782-2302 or info@androscogginlandtrust.org

Mount Apatite is a 300 acre property owned by the City of Auburn. In the early 1800’s it was an established mine. For nearly 100 years semi-precious stones and minerals were mined there. There is now a network of nearly 8 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, X-country skiiing, and snowmobiling.
