Northern River Clean-Up & EcoFest

September 7th, 2024

French Falls Conservation Area, Jay, ME

Get your gloves and trash bags ready, the day will start with an annual clean-up along the Androscoggin River in the towns of Jay, Livermore, and Livermore Falls. ALT has been hosting river clean-ups along the Androscoggin for over a decade and protecting the lands for the last 35 years. ALT hosts 2 clean-up events each year in Lewiston/Auburn and Jay/Livermore regions. Volunteers of all ages and abilities come together to do their part and spend a few hours making the water cleaner, the riverbanks safer, and the wildlife happier.

Following the clean-up ALT will be hosting a beer garden to celebrate our accomplishments in cleaning our waterways, riverbanks, and communities. Sample a wide selection of craft beers from local breweries, Ambition Brewing, and discover new favorites. From hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts and sour beer made from beets, there’s something for every beer lover to enjoy. Indulge in a delectable spread of food, from the backyard BBQ pairings menu.

Northern River Clean-Up

9:00 am- 11:00 am

Featuring Beer from Ambition Brewing and live musing from Matt and the Barnburners

Join us for an event to benefit the Androscoggin River, Maine’s third largest, stretching 164 miles from Errol, NH to Merrymeeting Bay. Named from the Abenaki word Ammoscongon, the river once teemed with Atlantic salmon and native trout to Rumford Falls. Thanks to dedicated efforts, it now supports diverse fish and wildlife, moving from class C to B quality in many areas. Yet challenges persist, especially below Jay and Lewiston-Auburn, where industrial history affects water quality.

For the last several years, volunteers have removed tons of trash along the river’s shores from Lewiston/Auburn to Jay. Volunteers set out on foot or by boat to remove tons of trash and debris from the Androscoggin River, tributaries, parks and shoreline. And we need your help to do it again this year!
