Hunting on Conserved Lands

Honor Maine’s Hunting Heritage, Respect Every Place

Learn where hunting is permitted on Androscoggin Land Trust properties and how to enjoy the tradition responsibly.

A Traditional Way to Connect with the Land

Hunting has long been part of Maine’s outdoor heritage, connecting generations of people with forests, fields, wildlife, and the seasonal rhythms of the land. Androscoggin Land Trust recognizes responsible hunting as a meaningful traditional use of conserved landscapes and, where appropriate, an activity that can help people build a deeper relationship with the places we protect. Our mission is to conserve important natural areas, traditional landscapes, and outdoor experiences throughout the Androscoggin River watershed. Because every preserve has distinct wildlife habitat, neighboring uses, access conditions, and conservation needs, hunting access varies by property. Some lands may be open to hunting, while others may have seasonal restrictions or remain closed. Before visiting, always review the rules for the specific property and follow all applicable state laws.

Responsible Hunting and Land Stewardship

Wildlife Management

When conducted responsibly and in accordance with state regulations, hunting can support wildlife management and help maintain balanced, healthy animal populations.

Respect for Protected Places

Following property-specific rules protects sensitive habitats, trails, neighboring properties, and the quiet outdoor experiences that conserved lands provide.

Shared Outdoor Traditions

Thoughtful hunting access helps sustain Maine’s traditional landscapes while honoring the many ways people enjoy and care for conserved land.
